The First of Many in The Empty Net

Hello and welcome to the first post of The Empty Net, the blog brain child of Tom and myself where we talk about literally nothing but football. We’ve never blogged before so take it easy on us. Much like the first time with a new lover, we’re hoping that what we offer here is good enough to not get laughed at. Or better still, our efforts are actually good enough that you’ll come back for more on the weekend.

Anyway, to get the humdrum stuff out of the way quickly, a few words on who we are and what we both aim to do here. I’m Michael, and together with my co-blogger Tom (is that a legitimate term?), we created The Empty Net as a platform to deliberate over the latest happenings in English and European football. As a pair of 22-year-old graduates of Nottingham University, we thought what better to do with our spare time than to spew our football knowledge out into the infinite nothingness that is the blogosphere. Thanks to the Internet, all of us have a stage from which to tell the world why our team keeps losing, and what our manager should do to change it come three o’clock on a Saturday afternoon. And this is what we aim to do here.

More precisely, we’re planning on offering our views on the Premier League and one foreign league a week, usually concentrating on one stand out game per league. For one thing, it helps us both keep an eye out for the latest developments outside of the Barclays Premier League this year. Secondly, admittedly for your benefit as much as ours (hopefully), it keeps things fresh. We’ve already seen some great clashes outside of England this season, and by analysing a different European league a week, you stay entertained and we maintain our love for football. If you want to broaden your footballing horizons from just the one and a half hours of English football on Match of the Day every weekend, you’ve come to the right place.

Obviously we encourage any feedback or discussion on the football we talk about, how we talk about it, what we could do better, and the like. This blog is aimed at fairly normal fans such as ourselves who share a keen interest in European football and who like writing about it in a reasonably analytical way. Here’s to hoping this works out for all of us!

Expect our next posts up later this week where we will touch on the international break and take a look at this weekend’s highlight fixtures in the Premier League and Europe.
Until then!
